I think there's a right way and a wrong way to engage in martial pursuits, to practice philanthropy, to learn, to lead or to follow .but one cannot force the right way on others and still consider things to be free. So what to do? I think democracy entails giving people dangerous things and then fervently crossing our fingers that we don't all fuck it up too badly. For my own person, I find guns nice for hunting but cowardly for self-protection. I think if a person comes to the point where they need a gun for self-protection, they most likely failed somewhere at an earlier stage when they could have prevented needing it in the first place. Yes, there are a handful of cases where the person did everything right and life still crapped on them, but much of the time some form of diplomacy, forethought, or prevention failed to happen beforehand.
